U.S. has hours to stop Turkish incursion as ISIS mobilises cells – columnist
President Donald Trump has just hours to reverse course and prevent a Turkish incursion into Syria because the threat from Islamic State (ISIS) is already resurfacing, said David Ignatius, a columnist at the Washington Post and a Harvard Kennedy School fellow.
Turkey is set to attack from the air and ground within 24 hours, Ignatius said on Twitter, citing sources who spoke of discussions between U.S. and Kurdish officials.
ISIS has already mobilised sleeper cells and attacks have taken place overnight, Ignatius said. ISIS detainees and their families are also set to break out of jails without a U.S. backup plan, he said.
The columnist said the Turkish attack appears to be coordinated with Russia, which is mobilising forces from the south.
