Visitors to Turkey hit 25 million as Russians, Germans lead charge

The number of foreign tourists visiting Turkey surged 14.1 percent to almost 25 million in the first seven months of the year, Dünya newspaper reported citing official figures.

Russian visitors increased 14.5 percent to 3.75 million, Dünya said on Thursday. The number of Germans rose by 15 percent to 2.67 million, it said.

Turkey is seeking to draw more revenue from tourism to help its economy recover from a painful slump and to attract much-needed foreign currency revenue following a currency crisis that peaked a year ago.

In July alone, visitors increased by an annual 16.7 percent to 6.6 million, the newspaper reported.
