Israeli couple arrested in Turkey to feature in ad campaign

Mordi and Natalie Oknin, the Israeli couple who were arrested in Turkey last month on suspicion of espionage, will feature in an ad campaign alongside Israeli actor Lior Raz, a star and creator of the Netflix show ‘Fauda’.

Raz will try to free the Oknins from jail in the television commercial for Israeli insurance company Bituach Yashir, the Jerusalem Post reported on Tuesday.

The couple, who work as bus drivers according to the Israeli media, were arrested on Nov. 9 and charged with spying after they photographed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s palace in Istanbul.

They were released from custody a week later after high-level diplomatic efforts and returned to Israel on a private jet sent by the Israeli government.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid thanked Erdoğan and his government for their cooperation following the couple’s release.
