Two civilians wounded in bomb attack in Syria’s Turkey-backed rebel north

Two civilians were wounded on Saturday in a bomb attack in Syria's northern rebel-held town of Jarabulus, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

The attacks were carried out by a bomb-laden car and no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the Turkish authorities believe that the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) were responsible for the attack, Anadolu said.

Turkey earlier blamed a string of deadly car bomb attacks in the region on the YPG, which Ankara views as a terrorist group due to its links to the Kurdish militants who have waged a decades-long insurgency inside Turkey.

Turkey and its proxy forces, including Syrian Arab and Turkmen fighters from the Free Syrian Army, took control of the region near the Turkish border following Operation Euphrates Shield launched in 2016.
