More than 400 vaccinated with Turkey’s domestic COVID-19 jab in phase three trials

Turkey’s domestically develoıped coronavirus vaccine TURKOVAC is used as a booster shot for persons inoculated with two doses of the Chinese Sinovac jab, and has been administered to more than 400 volunteers in phase three clinical trials in the Ankara City Hospital, according to microbiologist Dr Bedia Mert Dinç.

Dr Dinç, research chair of the hospital’s microbiology laboratory department, told state-run Anadolu Agency that the trials continued in 41 clinics in 28 provinces. A total of 7,400 volunteers have chosen between the TURKOVAC and Sinovac jabs as a booster shot after their Sinovac regimen.

Labs throughout the country are working to complete trials as soon as possible, Dinç said. “The faster we complete these efforts, the quicker TURKOVAC will enter mainstream use and the further we will go to reduce our country’s foreign reliance.”

After the number of volunteers “reaches an optimum level”, the TURKOVAC vaccine will apply for emergency use approval, Dinç said.
