On Veterans' Day, Manbij troops express unity with U.S. forces

The Manbij Military Council, a predominantly Arab unit of the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, tweeted a statement of unity on the American holiday of Veterans' Day.

"We still, together with the U.S. military, are fighting together to rid the world of the evil of terrorism and to establish peace and stability in Syria," the message read, remembering "all the fighters who have sacrificed their lives to establish peace and a stable life for humanity."

The statement came a day after the SDF, a mostly Kurdish force partnered with the United States in northern Syria, announced it would resume its fight against the Islamic State (ISIS). The SDF paused its anti-ISIS campaign last month in response to threats from Turkey.

On Saturday, armed groups backed by Turkey shelled MMB positions near Manbij despite a Turkish-U.S. joint patrol a few days prior, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
